Chloe, your fierce, immovable, unrelenting, and unreasonable love is so very inspirational and so very appreciated. May Michael and all the other babies live long and abundantly wild and wonderful lives.

Chloe. My heart is entrained with yours in this very moment. You have so elegantly expressed the inexpressible love-fear of being a mother. Every single time I look into the eyes of my daughters I stand for a moment in the endless in-between. The not-knowing of what they each will face, or whether their days will be difficult or gentle. A slice of time so thin. Fragile yet endless. Your words, your images, wisps of smoke in the air.

As always Chloe, you bring home to us, so eloquently, and with such importance and reverence, the world beyond our own world. Even if you are someone like me who is fortunate enough to be immersed in only the natural world for most of her day and has just had a long 'conversation' with a rare baby red squirrel. Or so I thought I had. ;) He probably thought, who's that mad woman, after taking his huge and much needed drink of water.

I could feel the fear from your dream and from so many of the other thoughts you penned here about the future of those precious babies and our wonderful planet. We can only all do our very best every minute of the day to preserve what we can and hold on to hope.

Your sense of the fires and the cars out there waiting . . . Beyond, after release... is so powerful. I'm clinging a bit to Michael, and even those baby jackdaws (what an unearthly din for ma and pa!)

They need to learn the laws of nature. Mother animals raise their young, teach them the important lessons of life and then they’re on their own.

If somehow you’ve given them a similar upbringing that’s all you can do.

Oh my heart, how I relate to this angst-filled trust in letting go and staying tethered as we help these beings wander back to the wild, wild world 🥹💗. A decade later, my heart still remembers and wonders about some of the animals I tended to at their most vulnerable moments, hoping beyond hope that their lives were rich and full of wonder and time. It is no different than letting your own babe’s hand go as they take their symbolic steps into the world. As always Chloe, you capture this maternal love, and this heartache for the thirsting and challenging world we send these perfect beings into, with such loving beauty 💖. A sigh, a tear filled throat, and a hand to heart, as always.
