"perhaps it makes sense that when we are dying, when staying alive is no longer the task at hand, perception starts to open to more of the world than it would usually allow in."
Dear Chloe, having had the honour to sit with several people as they were dying, and most recently lying in bed with my beloved as he was dying, curled up in this mysterious bubble of transitioning from one realm of being to the next, this makes so much sense to me ~ perception definitely opens to another world ~ a world of peace and gratitude and infinite expansive love š š
Oh no Chloe the little fawns⦠oh gosh there are no words for thisš
These tenacious spirits in such fragile packages.
Your prayer is so evocative. Offered with such grace and love. I could only hope that such a person be holding my hand in my final days.
I always say to my departing beloved āGo to the love. There is so much waiting for you. So much love. Iāve made it especially for you.ā Perhaps it offers me more solace than a statement of fact, the idea that somehow I can furnish their onward destination with a fierce and powerful love, makes me less fall into despair⦠who am I kidding - I still fall into despair. But somewhere in there I hope that there is some element of truth to it. That we are all just walking each other home (thank you Ram Dass) ..And home is the place of love, a familiarity that makes the last breath one without fear.
Thank you for your way of shaping words and images into gentle forms that settle ever so quietly and with such beauty, I dare not move while Iām reading in case I break the spell.
Sighā¦. So very true. My experience mirrors yours. And differs too of course. But that gap is both tiny and enormous. Until we take that final step. Take care dear Chloe. Sending so many hugs and best wishes.
Dearest Chloe, in these devastating heatwaves I have witnessed too many dead and dying fawns this year, likewise too many dead and dying birds. I like to think, despite knowing their reason for departing was a thirst I can't even begin to imagine, that these are the creatures that have given grace to others in order that not all should suffer. I wish that I could have fed them rose petals before they departed and I pray the cosmos has gathered them all greedily back in that they may delight in the stars. And, I pray, they have water in endlessly abundant, gulps...
How beautiful your prayer, how exquisitely you write of sanity and grace when all about me they are lost. I am filled with hope... thank you xxx
It's Sunday morning, I realise i drank slightly too much last night for no apparent reason, as I sit enjoying a coffee. And I read this. And had tears in my eyes at the sheer beauty of some of the images - the bird sleep-singing, the dying man among them - and the equal beauty of some of your thoughts and the way you express them. And now I need croissant but the echo of this post will stay with me today.
Your insights and thoughts help explain my own to myself. As a young boy I experienced life and death in both humans and animals. I accept both, life with joy, death with acceptance.
The way we move beyond the centrifuge of self- into āthe beyondā is what allows me to remember how held we all are in both the living and the dying. Even when it doesnāt look like I want it, it is nonetheless perfect. Thank you Chloe ā¤ļøš»
Iām going to take the delightful image of the sleepy-singing goldfinch into my day and your gorgeous prayer into my heart. Thank you š

That's the most beautiful prayer I've ever heard. Like a song sung in sleep under a wing. You are my most favorite meaning maker, Chloe Hope.

Listening at 3:00 a m. Going to get a snack to hopefully quiet my demons. And listen again. Thank you for always offering sanity, Chloe.
